Barbados @ 50 - Breakfast

>> Wednesday, 12 October 2016

There are many breakfast spots all around Barbados where you can stop and get a hot meal. After an early Saturday morning trip to Bridgetown market to stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables for the week, I stop by at one of the cook shops in the market to get breakfast. With my breakfast in hand,  along with a bottle of fresh local fruit juice, I get a newspaper and drive out to the beach to enjoy my breakfast and read the papers.

Guyana @ 50 - Duff/Dumpling

>> Thursday, 14 April 2016

You say dumpling, we say duff. Guyanese duff is made of a soft, slightly sweet flour dough. Once divided, each piece of dough is rolled into a thick cylindrical shape and placed on top of rice, ground provisions or soup to steam and cook. Some people also place them in a steamer to cook or boil them. I like to add a little cinnamon, and sometimes, freshly grated coconut to the mixture. So good!

Here is one of the more popular ways it is presented - in a soup.
