Caramelized Perfection & Giveaway Winner!

>> Saturday, 20 November 2010

Like I said in my column, I had a different idea planned but it got tossed the minute I popped one of these babies into my mouth. I am not going to say much, I'll let the photographs do the talking and give you the opportunity to head over to the column, get the recipe and make these as soon as possible.

Be warned, you will have to have to restrain yourself from eating way too many.

Eat one now...

And immediately have another... and another, and another...

Oh my! Do those look good! I could eat those pictures. And they couldn't be easier to make. They would make a great hors d'oeuvre for Thanksgiving. And I also loved your braised turkey idea from last week.

Goodness, these sound so good. Wonder if using Costa Rica bananas and Swiss bacon would yield a similar result.

Erica November 29, 2010 1:25 PM

I love ripe plantains and I will be making this recipe very soon :)

tigerfish November 30, 2010 12:25 AM

Lovely pictures, Cynthia. First time to this beautiful place, hope to come here more often for these lovely treats. Best wishes.

Argus Lou December 03, 2010 4:31 PM

I did it! But with the usual bananas and I did not achieve burnt spots. Other half liked it very much, too. :) Thank you!

I also tried for the first time caramelised bacon: bacon rashers laid out with a thin layer of brown sugar on top. Start from a cold oven till 170 degrees C. Watch out from the 16th minute, to make sure it's not too brown. Remove from oven, drain on kitchen paper and sprinkle with a bit of sea salt if desired. Heaven! (If you start to feel a sore throat coming on, quickly drink chamomile tea.)

I'm always looking for things to do with plantains, to take them outside the traditional box. This is a supreme idea. Thanks

Kitchen Butterfly December 22, 2010 6:34 AM

I'm making this right now...............
