WANTED: A cook to make breakfast

>> Saturday, 22 May 2010

I am serious. I don't know how much longer I can put up with preparing breakfast. Read this week's column and find out what has prompted me to make an earnest effort at eating breakfast. And be sure to check out my lofty aspirations that are not working for me! Then, if you're up to it, apply for the job. Click here for the column.

My efforts have been many and varied. Kinda how I like breakfast - if I am to commit to it.

Mini pancakes with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs

Fried ripe plantains

Stewed apples and yogurt or Plum (or any fruit) compote with yogurt

Roast Potatoes

Potato Choka & Sada Roti

And yes, oh gosh yes, I like a hot cooked meal for breakfast and a fish curry hits the spot every time!

All of these dishes are pretty straight forward (I think), but if anyone needs a recipe, drop me a line.

P.S. I know that you have not been seeing me visiting your blog lately. I am currently swamped with grading of papers etc and hopefully, soon, I'll come see you. Thank you for stopping by.

I enjoy preparing brunch... however, when one has children, one has no choice but make breakfast for them ;-)

Sreelu May 22, 2010 10:02 PM

Lovely dishes Cynthia, now all I can wish is for someone to serve this to me on my bed sigh :)

Memória May 22, 2010 11:01 PM

I wish I could apply for the job, but you put the bar up way too high for the likes of me haha. I could never cook such extravagant dishes for breakfast. Would you be okay with bowl of cereal? hahaha

Have fun grading! I'm glad I'm done hehehe :).

Indonesia-Eats May 22, 2010 11:40 PM

my breakfast style has changed since 7 years ago. I only consume fruit smoothie in the morning. No more nasi goreng (fried rice), mie goreng (fried noodle), rice porrdige or any other Indonesian style breakfast.

wow This looks like a dream breakfast! Every single one you listed here is so mouthwatering. My breakfast is almost always the same...toast and tea...some fruit after a yoga..

Ivy May 23, 2010 1:11 AM

I've never made anything else for breakfast apart from toast and I don't think I could eat anything else. I may cook a storm all day long but I hate cooking in the morning (at least not before 10 a.m.) and I rarely cook in the evening as well, so I am definitely not qualified.

Ah Cynthia feel free to come and cook breakfast for me any time. Everything looks fabulous. I always try to have a breakfast but could not ever eat when I tumble out of bed. Hunger usually seizes me when I have been up for about an hour. x

I agree to you if you were living in your home place that you would find atleast 8 homes wee they have delicous breakfast. In india too breakfast is a big thing.
You would not see me hovering over a stove in the mmorning, our breakfast here is just bread, butter, jam or chocolate etc..... and if i am in a genourous mood to my family on some saturday it is full English monty :-)

Pamela May 25, 2010 7:24 PM

I will totally cook your breakfast my dear, too bad I am so far away! Our breakfasts down South are pretty much boring I should say.

And don't worry to visit, I know you're busy enough, and it's so much fun visiting your blog, I really admire your work, you know

Rajani May 25, 2010 10:50 PM

Rina May 26, 2010 2:25 PM

This is so cool..Cynthia dear..droolling indeed...good luck w/ ur busy schedule..

David T. Macknet May 26, 2010 3:52 PM

I see why you're having trouble making breakfast - all of this is an immense amount of work!

I think T. had it right: slow cooker is the way to go, if you must have an easy breakfast (other than poached eggs and toast, which takes 4 minutes for my eggs, and 8 minutes for her eggs).

Sook May 26, 2010 11:21 PM

All I can say is... Mmmmmmmm!!!!

Cham May 27, 2010 2:15 PM

OMG- I like the hot fish curry Cynthia, that would be great with pancake!
I can only cook this kind of breakfast only in weekend :)

Toni May 27, 2010 3:08 PM

Can I come to your house for breakfast? Please??? I'll help with the dishes! I don't think I'd be hungry for the rest of the day, but that's fine with me!

Erica May 27, 2010 8:35 PM

What a delicious brunch!!!Beautiful pictures.

Chef Jeena May 28, 2010 9:27 AM

Lovely pictures Cynthia.

A_and_N May 28, 2010 7:59 PM

The post is great.

Now, let's get down to business. The deal goes like this.

We come there. I rent A out to you for say, 2 weeks. Or maybe longer, if I want some more sun. And he makes bfast for you. For free.

He is good. If you see my waists, you will realize.

Are you in?

PJ May 29, 2010 8:35 AM

while im reading this post, i could smell the aroma of corned beef being cooked by my daughters for breakfast... didn't mean to get you jealous hahaha...
but your dishes here look so good, i want to take a bite in every dish! your pictures are calling out my name!
don't work yourself too hard.... semester is almost over right?

Aparna June 04, 2010 12:48 PM

You make all that for breakfast and you want someone else to cook for you?
On second thoughts, if you have more than one candidate applying for the position please pass them on to me. I love my breakfast but am getting a bit tired of having to cook it. :)

Kimberly June 11, 2010 9:30 AM

Wow, this is my first time seeing your blog and I love the conversation around food that you've created. I am impressed with the professionalism of it, especially since you have another full-time job! I've only been to Barbados a few times when I was living in the Caribbean, but I can't help but wonder if I passed you on the street, it just seemed so small. However, I now live in Canada, so perhaps it's a frame of reference thing.

Naturaleza August 09, 2011 9:35 PM

All these yummy things for breakfast! I need a cook for sure! The bakes were a definite part of my Bajan childhood experience for breakfast. Mummy made sure of that. I loved mine with butter or cheese, and still do. Now, in my household, my daughter has that privilege, although not necessarily for breakfast. Sometimes, I just 'feel fuh a bake!' :)
