Barbados @ 50 - Sea Eggs

>> Saturday 5 November 2016

Sea eggs (uni sea urchin) is a prized Bajan delicacy. Over the years, due to poaching and over harvesting, the authorities have had to institute bans to allow the sea urchins to grow and populate the shallow coral reefs where they can be found. Last year, the local Ministry of Fisheries lifted an 11-year ban on harvesting the eggs. Fisher folk were allowed to harvest the eggs for one month - October.
