Meat + Rice + Spices = Tatbileh

>> Saturday, 23 October 2010

Like many of you, I buy and eat the same things every week, particularly when I am busy. The familiar is quick and easy to prepare because we can make it with our eyes closed. In this week's column, I share with you a Middle Eastern rice dish, Tatbileh, which I discovered when reading a blog! Truly, food blogs are the best places to discover food. Thanks to Sarah Melamed over at Food Bridge, I now have another dish that I can add to my repertoire of quick tasty meals.

Read more about this dish here and get the recipe, or head over to the Food Bridge.

This week on About.com, discover how to make this delicious, creamy corn soup that is a favourite in Trinidad & Tobago.

You are so right, can't go for a week without eating some dal or sambhar.

This Tatbileh looks so very good and I can understand why it has become a regular in your kitchen.

I love the spices in that rice dish.

It's so interesting how every culture puts its own spin on rice dishes. This sounds so good. Chicken would be good in this too, don't you think?

The trouble with traveling and finding new favorite foods is that one day I'm going to have to pick a single place to live, and ingredients for something will no doubt be hard to come by!

It really looks very good and familiar. I like one that has pinenuts (snaubar) and the rice is cooked with fried vermicelli in the bouillon of a chicken, which is afterwards shredded on placed on top of the rice with the pine nuts: I cannot find the recipe though. I really like multicultural foods and if I cannot find an ingredient, I really try to substitute it with something almost similar.. will definitely make this next week.

Tatbileh. What a wonderful recipe. Love the nuts and spices used here. I just love the way nuts are used in Middle eastern cuisine. As for this wonderful corn soup, will prepare it tomorrow. I received some corns in my weekly organic basket and this will be a wonderful addition. I like the preparation.
