Fond memories make the best sauce to eat with food.
My mouth is watering at each photo. They all look delicious. I would dearly love your recipe for the pears and apples. I love the combination of these fruits with spices and perhaps a little maple syrup too.
Nice story to pay tribute to your father, Cynthia.
For some reasons your nostalgia sounds familiar to me...

Ooohh, the photos have me drooling! Luckily Pablo is starting some ribs smoking right now, so later I'll be thinking of you while I dig into ours ;-)
Cynthia, that happens to me every time I make something that turns out so good... I have been in a long-distance with my bf for over 2 years now, and when I see him, I can't decide what recipes I want to cook for him... Good thing that is coming to an end in a few months... A cook loves to share their food, you know how that goes ;)
I am sorry that you lost your father too soon. I think food has that wonderful conforting ability to bring back the good things you remember about your family.
Cynthia,
Congratulations on the new gig. That's fantastic and they're lucky to have you!
What a sweet piece about your father and uncle. That IS what it's all about - remembering the good times with family and friends. Yummy looking recipes too.
That happens to me sometimes too...the ribs are gorgeous!
Food, memories, comfort - they all go together. Wonderful photos as usual, Cynthia.
Hey congratulations on being the contributor for the Canadian Magazine. I am sure a lot more folks out there would benefit from your contributions. Like me, for instance !
Food and family .. seem to always go together. Loved your memories of Daddy and Uncle Freddy.

Yes, I absolutely have had that experience! And thanks for including the bok choy - I've got a bag of them in the fridge right now that need to be used!
Happy Father's Day, indeed :)
I love that story, and am glad the food brought good memories. It definitely looks tasty--ginger lemonade sounds excellent, too!
Every picture made me wish to have it right away! Anything braised in the oven says it all!!!
I do the reminiscing all the time thinking about family in S.A.
yes I have had that feeling many times. Congrats on getting a column in a Canadian magazine you so deserve it. You truly represent Caribbean cooking and have inspired me so much even if we eat different things.
Guess what!!! I had just finished the sauted apples when I came to visit you. I just love anything that includes apples on the recipe. Very nice meal. And congrats for that Canadian experience!! YOU never stop!
Food is all about coming together. Everything looks delicious!
So often I'm eating something and am transported to another place or time... Or think about how much better it would taste to have it with a particular family member or friend. Beautiful pics, Cynthia! :)
Those ribs and pears sound and look amazing :)!!
My father lived to be 90 years old and every time I make pizza, I think of him. The first time I served him a pizza, I was so surprised that he liked it so much and even told me to make it again.

The first two dishes...I will have it with steamed rice :)
I love how food is not just to nourish the body, but the soul. I have so many fond memories with food too!
Yowzer Cynthia - we'll have to arrange an appropriate ceremony to make you an Honorary Canadian....eh?
Good on you!!!
Lucky you to have such great father, father figure and food influences in your life when you were young! Thanks for sharing the memories...all the sweeter when shared. Love your food choices...a great mix of flavors and textures.
Now if you hear that sound when you chew, time to see the dentist!
Your food always looks so delicious and the pictures gorgeous.
Congrats for writing in another magazine. Food always bring sweet memories of my family and even these days that most families do not eat together because their time schedule does not match, or when children take their food to eat at the computer, we try and eat lunch together. All your recipes look delicious.
I do get that feeling at times. I'll taste something and think how much I wish my late-Mom or late-Dad were still here to enjoy it, too. It's amazing how food taps into our memories, isn't it?
Those ribs...! I almost wasn't able to continue reading after looking at those gorgeous pieces of meat. Ribs are special occasion/going out food for me, so you now have me thinking of all those special (rib) dining experiences.
Oh my godness! Those sauteed apples with cinnamon look absolutely mouthwateringly delicious!!
Greetings,
Tiina
